The Winning Ride

Sydney Mayo, a senior for Houston Texas won Intermediate Over Fences at the last show.

Over fences is judged on how well the rider is able to execute the course. Judges look for overall correctness of position and how effective the rider is in using her aids to communicate with the horse. Mayo was able to demonstrate all of the above when she won Intermediate Over Fences.

Mayo drew a WT horse named Nibbs, since Nibbs is from WT Mayo is very familar with him. Mayo walks us through her course and describes Nibbs as "looky". This means her horse was a bit spooky around the course and might have refused or stopped at the fences. Never the less, Mayo was able to get Nibbs to jump everything while demonstrating proper equitation.

Mayo says that she pointed up into Open [over fences], this means she was earned enough points to move up into a more advanced jumping class.

We look forward to hearing more from Mayo as she finishes her senior year.
