What is SAAC?

Updated: Dec 3, 2019

SAAC stands for Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. It is a governing body of student athletes. Members serve as a voice for both athletes and students as they discuss ongoing campus activities as well as affairs within the Lonestar Conference. They also provide input on rule changes or other regulations and policies in the NCAA.

"The mission of the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image."

The members of the Equestrian Team offer a unique look when contributing to discussions in SAAC as they do not compete in the Lonestar Conference but instead in Zone 7, Region 2 of the IHSA.

Currently there are four SAAC members that represent the Equestrian Team. These members have all been chosen by Coach Ellis because they demonstrate good leadership skills and communication skills. Members include: Klarissa Barley, Karis Blankenship, Mollie Green, Alexia Todd and Kendall Woellmer.

SAAC members must complete a total ten hours of community service each semester. Community projects that SAAC completes are a canned food drives, a community Easter egg hunt, a community 'Trunk or Treat', and raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Trunk or Treat is an event where children of the community come the AC dressed up in Halloween costumes and receive candy from the different student organizations. Due the cold weather this event has been inside for the past couple of years.

Trunk or Treat has been a favorite among many SAAC members.

Typically SAAC members come dressed up according to the theme of their booth. In 2018 members came dressed up as animals to go along with their booth theme of the jungle. Kendall Woellmer says that "Its always awesome to see kids around the community the community dressed up".
