Q & A with Ellie Schell

Freshman Ellie Schell came to West Texas A&M from Denver Colorado. She is hard working and a very supportive team member. Schell goes above and beyond, she always shows up to extra practices just to help her team. She even earned an outstanding GPA of a 4.0 her first semester at WT. Schell is looking forward to the next 4 years on the team.

Q: What is your major?

A: Equine Industry and Business


Q: What do you compete in?

A: Novice Hunt Seat Equitation


Q: Do you have any tips for getting a perfect GPA?

A: Yes! I recommend getting and staying organized with your school work. I like to have a separate folder and binder for each class, that way there are never any lose papers in my backpack. Studying on a regular basis is helpful, it allows me to complete work on time. I think asking questions during class is a must too. I'm never afraid to discuss with my classmates or go in and talk with my professors.


Q: What has been your favorite college class you've taken so far?

A: I enjoyed principals of animal science with Dr. Lust. I liked learning about digestion, nutrition, as well as other aspects of cows and large animals. Dr. Lust made the class really fun.


Q: What was your riding experience like prior to competing on the team like?

A: Prior to being on the team, I competed in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association or IEA. I also competed in the Colorado Hunter Jumper Association, as well as local shows. In my early days of riding I rode Western and dabbled in barrel racing.

Q: What is your favorite part about the team?

A: My favorite part about the team is the team! I love my teammates! They are so supportive and they always are smiling. I know I can always go to them for advice or the hang out!


Q: What is your favorite WT sport other than Equestrian?

A: Football


Q: Who is your favorite WT horse and which horse is you groom horse?

A: My favorite WT horse is Cookie. I have two groom horses! Scout and General.


With both outstanding grades and horsemanship Schell has proven to be an exceptional competitor in the ring and in the classroom. WT Equestrian looks forward to watching her grow over the next four years.
